Feature and Follow Friday #6 - DNF?

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Alison Can Read and Parajunkee. The goal is to meet new people and gain more followers in the book blogging community. If you would like to join in the fun just visit one of the host's blog for the rules.

Question of the Week: How do you handle a book you don’t like? Do you DNF or do you power through?

Luckily I don't read too many books that I hate that much that I want to quit it. But, I always read for fun, so I don't obligate myself to drag through a book I don't like. I give a book 100 pages to interest me, after that I will quit the book. That doesn't mean I will never try it again, sometimes you just don't feel like reading about a certain subject.
My main DNF factors are irritating main characters, slow pace and no action, confusing story or stupid romances (instalove, love triangle..). My last DNF was Eragon, it was just too tedious.

  1. I totally agree! Not liking a main character and slow pacing are the two things that usually make me want to put a book down. I usually don't have many 1 or 2 star reviews because I usually DNF a book before I make it to that point! We book bloggers just have so many books to read that personally I think I can't afford NOT to DNF.
    Lovely thoughts :)

  2. I've just recently started DNFing but I don't do it often. I completely agree with your reasons, slow pacing and confusing plot will definitely have me thinking if it is worth continuing. :)

  3. I usually try and power through but I really skim the book at that point. Honestly, this doesn't seem to happen with YA novels, just "adult" ones. That's probably why I love reading YA! But I have stopped reading a book before because, yes, there are just too many great books out there to waste time reading one that is a chore! ~Pam

  4. Ooh nice! I agree wholeheartedly! I don't want to spend time reading a book I am not enjoying. I usually follow the 100 page rule as well. I do generally finish all that I read. I've had a few DNF books in the past, but really not many. I want to say less than 5 since I started blogging in 2009.

    Here's my Follow Friday

  5. I give a book 100 pages and if I don't like it or if it doesn't get better I DFN.I think it's pointless to spend time reading a book you're not enjoying.Old follower!

  6. I typically power through books, but am beginning to realize that I don't have time to read books that I don't like.

Also, just saw the feature on you over at The Attic. The Hunger Games totally got me back into reading too!
