Synopsis:

Fans of The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices know that Magnus Bane is banned from Peru—and now they can find out why. One of ten adventures in The Bane Chronicles.
There are good reasons Peru is off-limits to Magnus Bane. Follow Magnus’s Peruvian escapades as he drags his fellow warlocks Ragnor Fell and Catarina Loss into trouble, learns several instruments (which he plays shockingly), dances (which he does shockingly), and disgraces his host nation by doing something unspeakable to the Nazca Lines.
This standalone e-only short story illuminates the life of the enigmatic Magnus Bane, whose alluring personality populates the pages of the #1 New York Times bestselling series, The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices series.

Review:

I really loved this short story about Magnus. I have always found Magnus one of greatest characters in both The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices. The fact that he had been banned from Peru has always been a mystery to the readers.

The book contains 4 stories about the 4 times Magnus was in Peru. He always is there with Ragnor Fell, another warlock we've heard of in the Mortal Instruments, and later with Catarina, who is a warlock new to us.

The stories are very funny and describe all the trouble Magnus finds himself in in Peru.
Magnus is such a bubbly, charismatic character, you just can't stop yourself from loving him.
Ragnor was not very great in this book, he just seemed to complain about everything. Catarina on the other hand was awesome. She had hilarious comments, especially when she was describing Magnus' drunken actions.
“You told us to leave you in the desert, because you planned to start a new life as a cactus”
“Magnus, you were trying to flirt with your own plate.”

I was a bit disappointed that they still did not reveal why Magnus was banned from Peru in the end. I thought that was the whole point of the book?

I would definitely recommend this book to all fans of TMI & TID. It was a fun, quick read and more Magnus is always good. I can't wait for the next book in the Bane Chronicles!

  1. You know, most people seem to love her books, but I just haven't gotten around to reading them (I read the first Mortal Instruments but never finished the series). The movie is coming out soon, so maybe I should give them a try. Thanks for the review, I'm glad to know that the novellas are worthwhile (even if they don't provide all the answers).
